First of, if you don't believe in the Bing Bang and Evolution, skip this thread and go to the next one.  This is not meant as a religious debate. Open your Adam and Eve thread and I promise not to butt in it.

I'm serious...

Now, I'm sure a lot of you have already heard of the cosmic calendar, but it still amazes me to think how little we are in the history of the universe. Basically if we condensed all the history of the universe into one single year, where the Bing Bang happened one the first second of January 1st and today being midnight sharp on 31st December, all our known history only happened in the last 15 seconds. Wow...

And I wrote it twice, stupid!

I SAY Big Bang, don't know why my fingers wrote BING BANG. LMAO.  Thanks for the correction.

1st, a niggle: The big bang and evolution are scientific theories. There's no call to "believe in" them as such - you evaluate the evidence and make a reasoned decision as to the credibility (or not) of the theory.

A question: what actually constitutes "all our known history" as you mention? Once we know this we can work out our own lifetimes in relation to the 15 sec!

Hey, looking at the December calendar I just noticed that acording to the dates events, the 1st dinosaurs appeared on Dec 24. Now isnt that a nice x-mas present?

Just one question, If we all came from monkeys, why are there still monkeys? Shouldnt they have evolved also?

Big Bang... 15 seconds... Did my wife write this article?

Um, I mean did my friend's wife write this article?

WTF? paxx you looking over my shoulder today, or what?
I was watching the very first episode of Cosmos, today and have the second episode in right now. I am doing a Sagan / Cosmos Marathon.
I had to explain to my wife that the SETI proggy she runs, was a direct decendent of Carls, establishing SETI Program, and also let her know He wrote, Contact and Broca's Brain, and also how ground breaking the Astrophysics for the Masses "Cosmos" was for the Average Joe, in the 80's.
This is just to damn creepy. To bad old Carl died, he will be missed and I am sure He would have a thing or two to say to Hawking about his latest Theories on Black holes and Uncoherant / Unorganized Mass.
I happen to like the Cosmic Foam, ideas as well as String theory.
Being a True Scifi, Fan I eat this type of stuff up.
